SAN FRANCISCO − The American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology announced a joint venture to distribute a new edition of the Academy's popular weekly electronic newsletter, Academy Express, specifically for PAAO members in Latin America. The first issue will be published June 1.
Academy Express is e-mailed weekly to ophthalmologists around the globe, offering a quick look at highlights from peer-reviewed clinical journals, as well as opinions from leading experts in the field and news from the Academy. This new PAAO edition will include all of the clinical information from the original Academy Express, but it will also provide the latest news from PAAO.
The Academy has offered Academy Express to its 27,000 members for the last four years. Because members have found it a great benefit, the Academy decided to extend this benefit to ophthalmologists around the world. The new PAAO edition is just the beginning. Plans are in the works for producing joint editions with several other international ophthalmic societies.
“Academy Express has helped serve the Academy’s mission of advancing the lifelong learning and professional interests of ophthalmologists so that the public can obtain the best possible eye care,” said H. Dunbar Hoskins Jr., MD, executive vice president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. “We hope that international collaborations such as this will further serve our mission for the benefit of ophthalmologists and their patients worldwide.”
