For last year's inaugural EyeBuild community service project, the Academy partnered with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. More than 400 individuals participated and EyeBuild made a contribution of $16,020 to Habitat New Orleans' Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.

The Academy's efforts to give back to the communities that support our Annual Meetings will continue this year in Atlanta, when we once again partner with Habitat for Humanity. Atlanta Habitat builds energy-efficient, EarthCraft-certified homes that protect the environment and reduce utility bills.

EyeBuild FAQs

What is the schedule for the day?
6:45 a.m. – Meet in the GWCC Entrance Concourse at the EyeBuild table to sign in, receive your t-shirt and meet fellow EyeBuild participants.
7:15 a.m. – Depart GWCC on EyeBuild bus.
Mid-day – Lunch will be provided at the worksite.
3:30 p.m. – Return to GWCC on EyeBuild bus.

Will meals be provided?
The Academy will provide coffee, juice and a snack for breakfast; there will be a midmorning snack and a boxed lunch at the worksite. Please e-mail the meetings department if you have special meal requirements. The buses will be kept at the worksite so you can pick up your lunch and eat on the bus.

What is a typical day like?
Once you arrive onsite there will be a safety talk and the day’s tasks will be announced. Homes are at the end of completion so duties will include painting, patching and landscaping. Assignments depend on what needs to get done that day and on weather conditions.

What should I wear?
Footwear needs to be sturdy with closed toes and closed heels. Boots and sneakers are both considered appropriate footwear; however, boots are preferable. Wear weather-appropriate clothing for the season (temperatures average 44 – 63 degrees F) and keep in mind that we will be departing for the work site early in the morning, when it can be quite cool. Sunscreen, hats and sunglasses are a good idea, as is a lightweight jacket. The Academy will provide safety glasses and work gloves.

What if it rains?
We will continue to work, inside if necessary, until the rain abates. If it becomes obvious that the rain is not going to stop, work will be called off for the day, but that is a rare occurrence.
