The Academy Seniors implements programs for and recognition of Academy members age 60 and older.

Academy Seniors Executive Committee Charge:  To address the interests and needs of active and retired ophthalmologists over 60 years of age, communicating their concerns to the Academy leadership, supporting their relationship with and involvement in Academy activities.

Letters to the Editor and Submissions

Letters to the Editor
Scope newsletter welcomes letters regarding the publication.  Letters should be limited to 250 words and may be edited.

Submissions
Scope solicits non-clinical articles for publication.  General familiarity with what we have published in the past is the best guide.

As I Remember It
As I Remember It, recounts entertaining 500 word or less vignettes of training, residency and early practice.

Technology Column
Andrew Doan, MD, Scope's technology columnist, is an eye pathologist and comprehensive ophthalmologist in San Diego.  Dr. Doan welcomes topic suggestions and comments.

Club Lounge at the Annual Meeting

The Club Lounge is a relaxing oasis of peace and quiet at the Joint Meeting. Enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, or a light snack. The lounge is also equipped with internet access.  Admittance is by attendee badge.

The Academy Seniors offer three innovative technology courses during the Joint Meeting in Atlanta.  The courses are offered one day only.  GWCC, Room B315.

Web Design Primer for the Ophthalmologist
8:30 - 11:30 a.m. (Event Code SPE02)
This course offers an overview of the organization of Web sites, basic server organization, and introductory web design to help you setup, design, and publish web pages on the Internet.  This instruction provides a hands-on, step-by-step construction of a basic web site on the Internet.  The lessons of this course will help you learn how to create a web site for your personal and professional needs.

Selling and Purchasing on eBay, Craigslist, and other Mediums:  How to Clean Your Attic with Profit
12:30 - 2:30 p.m. (Event Code SPE06)
This course offers an overview of how to safely shop, sell and make money on the Internet, as well as protecting yourself from fraud and phishing schemes.  Learn how to make money from the "junk" in your office, home and attic.

Internet Blogging and Publishing Services
3:00 - 5:00 p.m. (Event Code SPE08)
This course offers an overview of how to blog, publish, and share your ideas on the Internet. The course also covers how to package your content into traditional books for distribution. This instruction provides a hands-on, step-by-step construction of your internet blog.

Fee per course:  $150 - Academy Member, $175 - Non-Academy Member or Spouse
